Pantiles Jazz The Pantiles The Pantiles

Summer Livin'

The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells is fast becoming the place to be this summer.

With an attractive bandstand at its heart, The Pantiles is a family-friendly, pedestrianized area of the town, and has a real accent on boutique shopping and independent traders.

Not only can people enjoy shopping, eating and drinking but now there's a packed programmes of events, including regular farmers' markets, jazz nights and classical concerts.

Classics on The Pantiles is held every Sunday afternoon, with Italian opera singer Sabrina Di Milano launching the series with a selection of pieces by Verdi and Puccini. Future acts include a harpist, a wind band and a classical guitarist.

It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy a lingering lunch or indeed, a spot of afternoon tea as you listen to some beautiful, evocative music.

Jazz evenings are held every Thursday, and also offer the chance to dine and enjoy music from diverse artists including a 17-piece big band who perform hits from Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.

In addition to the regular music events, a Vintage Fair is returning to The Pantiles this month, after a year's break.

It takes places on July 26 and 27. On the Saturday, at 1pm, the Wiesbaden Town Band performs to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the twinning charter between Tunbridge Wells and Wiesbaden in Germany.

And in the evening the Sussex Arms pub hosts The Secret Soul Club from 8pm until midnight, featuring 1960s American music.

Sunday features skiffle band Lone Ed from 12-2pm, and Rockabilly act The Spudguns from 2.30-4.30pm.

Visitors will again be encouraged to dress the part and enjoy stalls selling vintage clothes, china, and handmade crafts. There will be vintage cars, a pop-up beauty parlour, live music and entertainment on the bandstand, and free activities for children.

Pantiles Market

A farmers' market is held every first and third Saturday of the month, and provides shoppers with the chance to buy locally-grown goodies, especially, at this time of the year, delicious soft fruits. It runs at The Pantiles from 10-4pm.

The extended music season is supported and sponsored by The Tunbridge Wells Hotel, Woods Restaurant, The Grey Lady, The Ragged Trousers, and The Duke together with Targetfollow and The Eridge Estate.
